  • Hello Julia, The shock of diagnosis can be really hard to cope with. Most people on here have been through it and can empathise with how you are feeling. I had mine two years ago and was very scared, however, you will wake up from the operation and feel as though no time has passed at all. The beauty of general anaesthetics. Make sure you ask for what you need from the nursing staff and you'll soon be back home. I would advise not scaring yourself with reading stuff on google because it is based on the general rather than your specific situation. Keep chatting to the folks on here - I see that no-one has answered so far but that's just because it's not a very busy forum. Kidney cancer is rarer than a lot of the others. Ask questions and people, including myself, will answer as best we can.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Julia,

It's easy for people to say not to worry but you will, it's human nature, I was diagnosed mid September and am now 5 days post surgery. Due to the size of my tumour I had to have an open radical nephrectomy.im home now and getting stronger each day that passes, please feel free to ask anything. This group is amazing and has helped me massively.x

  • Hello Julia I know exactly how you feel. I'm due to have surgery tomorrow and I'm extremely nervous, but also quite happy to be getting rid of my kidney and tumour.

It's good that you have a surgery coming up so that's a good step on the road, same as me.

Take care and if you need to ask me anything, give me a few days after tomorrow for me to recover, and I'll try to answer any questions you have.
