Just joined to be with people in the same position and friends and family never understand and all they ever say is " your be ok"

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.

I don’t have HL but I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare, incurable type of NHL Stage 4a so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I understand the challenges of the journey well.

I noticed from your profile that you may be looking at a relapse. I actually know this rather well as I have had many relapses over my first 17 years with my longest remission being 6-9 months before more treatment. You can see my story by hitting my community name.

Over the years I have been supporting on this community and on another Lymphoma Online Support Groups…… until you are actually told you have a problem you don’t.

    Always around to chat.

  • Hello Jordan ManUK - apologies for not replying earlier but since 12/4 no email (thanks BT) - back today.

Yes, life can be a bugger and my situation I was diagnosed in 2019, on my third treatment for H-L. One of our (i.e. people with cancer) "problems" is that for years the word beginning with "c" was shrouded with 'orrible overtones. Nobody knows if they will be alright and that includes the medics. So my approach, sadly taught to me by my late wife (who after 17 years  of ops and treatments, her brain tumour triumphed), was to PANIC WHEN WE HAD TO. And we continued, as far as possible, as normal- she worked until 65. We adopted a matter-of-fact approach. So, explain and try to put your situation in context if people are prepared to listen.

H-L has a good survival rate with treatment. Over the past 3 years I have learnt to trust the medics, be a good boy and follow the treatment and conditions (diet?) as advised.

Covid doesn't help. So keep safe
