Hi everyone,
Hard to know where to start really but I'm 23 and I was diagnosed in December and have been receiving chemo since the start of February (I have had 6 sessions). My hair is not falling out in clumps rather it is just thining out so now my parting is wider and there are definite patches where u can see my scalp but only really when I move my hair to show them. I know that eventually there will come a point where it will just look better if I shave it but I'm holding onto it as long as I can for fear of losing my identity. Any advice people can give me to make me feel less anxious about it or even just someone who gets me and I can talk to about it?
Jess
Hi and welcome to this corner of the Community. I am Mike Thehighlander and help out around our blood cancer groups.
The lose of hair is one of the challenging emotional parts of the treatment journey. I was diagnosed in 1999 with a rare type of NHL and my treatment journey had me lose my hair three times over 2 years.
I was very philosophical about the lose of my hair as looking back 5-6 years now it was a small-ish price to pay for now being in remission and living a great life.
I am sure that some of the HL folks will be along to talk more with you ((hugs))
