Hi,

I'm 19 years old, and currently on my 4th cycle of chemo (two cycles of OEPA, two of COPDAC) , and Ive been experiencing really intense hot flashes. I was told by doctors and nurses that it would end by the end of my last (3rd) cycle, but I'm still experiencing them, and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to deal with them?

Also is it possible that I still continue to have these side effects after this cycle is finished as well?

Additionally, I wanted to ask about hair regrowth after chemo. My hair has started to grow back (started in the middle of my third cycle) , but its thinner, and I'm worried about how its going to look when it starts growing out properly. Anyone have any idea how long it takes on average to gain a full head of hair?

Id be grateful for any advice.

Thanks.

  • Hi, best to discuss your hot flushes with your doctor as they know you and how your disease is effecting you, but try not to worry, as for hair rest assured it will grow back and others will confirm this to. As for dealing with the hot flushes sorry I don't have any advice, but do keep a record so you can explain how often they happen and for how long to the doctor.

we all know this is a roller coaster ride, where we ride blind, never knowing where the highs and lows are
  • Hi,

so sorry you’re getting bad hot flushes, it’s most likely due to hormonal changes plus your chemo. Use as much in the form of natural fabrics in clothing and bedding as you can, and think about a small hand held fan (you can get rechargeable ones which work really well) to help you when they happen.

it’s surprisingly common to get hair regrowth while going through chemo and find it’s thinner and different from normal. It will improve once you’re through treatment.
