I have been diagnosed with classical Hodgkin lymphoma. Got my first chemo 8 days back. After the first chemo my appetite has gone up. I feel like eating all the time.I have also gained 8 pounds in these 8 days. Is this normal? Please advise as I am really very worried. My whole body seems to be swelled up.
Hi , sadly this is most likely to be a result of the steroids that your team are most likely using as an aid to the anti-nausea medications they give you! Hopefully it will ease as the steroids leave your system. Are you taking tablets every day?
my advice anyway would be to phone to speak to your specialist nurse. As it’s your first treatment they may well find they need to tweak drugs to help you and prevent this rapid weight gain. Also, are you drinking enough water? As sometimes chemo plus the extra meds can interfere with your fluid balance. Again I think it’s a phone call you need to make to your nurse tomorrow.
If your nurse is happy with everything and says this is ok, then locks on food cupboards might be needed!!! Or making sure you have the right type of snacks to eat!!!

Hi and welcome...... yes do check in with your team as moomy suggests. I have a different type of lymphoma but I lost a massive amount of weight but had lots of problems with fluid retention so action had to be taken and if peeing had been an Olympic Sport Scotland could have had a Gold Medal.
