Hi

I am a 27 year old female andi have not long given birth (to the most amazing little girl) and have had a hard battle being listened to during the pandemic to get a diagnosis. When I was finally heard after months of perseverance I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins. I’ve had two full cycles of AVBD and ready to go for my pet scan next week - nervous & excited as I’m thinking positive.

I am taking the most horrendous sweats - occasionally during the day and extreme at night. I sometimes go from freezing to flushed and it’s awful. It’s really disturbing my sleep and making me worried something else is going on in my body.

This isn’t how I planned on starting motherhood so any advice would be great. Thank you.

  • Awwww, that sounds really tough!

I have to say though, that chemo does mess with your hormones, as does being a new Mum! Please do phone your chemo specialist nurse for advice and help. Keeping in cotton clothing (plus bed linen too) can help here, I’ve also read that bamboo based fabrics can help as well

Hope things improve for you and you swiftly get a lasting remission.

  • Hi, I wish you all the best for your PET scan. I will be thinking of you.

    Hi,

So sorry to hear the difficulties in being diagnosed, I can definitely relate as I was diagnosed at the start of the pandemic in April last year.

Although my situation may be slightly different to yours, I definitely experienced the most severe night sweats and hot flushes which started about a month in to treatment and persisted throughout my six months of ABVD.  My doctor also prescribed zoladex injections during my treatment as an experimental means of fertility preservation as unfortunately I was unable to have any of the traditional fertility treatments because elective surgeries and were suspended at the time of me being diagnosed.  As a result, I can't be sure if these were a result of the ABVD or the zoladex, which puts you in to a temporary menopausal state.  I am now 5 months post treatment and the night sweats and hot/cold flushes have definitely improved, but they are still present occasionally.  Again, this may be unique to my experience as I am slightly older than you (33).  Hormone testing after treatment has shown that they are definitely going a bit crazy at the moment with high FSH levels but I am still awaiting an appointment to see what this actually means in my situation.

Definitely mention it to your specialist but at least in my experience, it was normal and my haematologist wasn't concerned about it.

I really hope your scans go well next week, wishing you the best of luck Slight smile

    Hi.

I'm on ABVD and am struggling with the sweats. Mostly at night too, my sleep has been badly affected.  I've also done 2 cycles out of 6.

I've mentioned to my nurses and they say that is a side effect of the chemotherapy.

Must be so hard with being a new mother too.

Hope things improve for you soon.
