I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins lymphoma earlier this year and I am currently undergoing 6 cycles of ABVD chemotherapy. I have completed 3 cycles but I have been struggling with the side effects and I am finding it increasingly difficult to cope. My Consultant has mentioned dropping the Brentuximab for the remaining cycles but he hesitant to do so due to this then not being an evidence based treatment. I know it is common practice with bleomycin to drop this after the second cycle but I am not sure about Brentuximab.
Has anyone had ABVD with Brentuximab and dropped this drug during treatment?
Hi, I had stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year and had 8 months of ABVD. The Bleomycin was dropped after my interim PET scan. Are you having ABVD plus Brentuximab, or AVD plus Brentuximab? Bleomycin and Brentuximab should not be given together because of pulmonary toxicity. Dropping the Brentuximab is not much different to dropping Bleomycin. It is normal protocol.
Hello, thank you for your reply. I'm having AVD plus Brentuximab. I was thinking surely it would be the same difference whether the Bleomycin is dropped or Brentuximab is dropped.
I didn’t notice any difference in my symptoms after Bleomycin was dropped. They do it primarily to protect your lungs. Side effects of ABVD were horrible for me, but for the most part they improve after you’ve finished chemo. Hope the rest of your treatment goes well
