Fever on escalated BEACOPDac

Hi everyone,

34 year old female with Hodgkins Lymphoma. I'm on day 10 of escBEACOPDac and feeling dreadful.

I've just finished my first round and I'm starting the 'rest' week, if it can be called that. I've been getting a fever almost everyday since starting chemo, which does come down with paracetamol and I have no other signs of infection. Today is the worst I've felt (day 10). I have called the 24hr helpline a couple of times about it and have spoken to my nurses about it, they all say as long as it comes down with paracetamol and there's no other symptoms then not to worry. It's likely down to my bodies reaction to chemo or may be to do with the lymphoma. So all I'm wondering is if anyone else has suffered with fevers on chemo as well? And did they get better? I'm dreading the next rounds because I already feel pretty rotten!

Thanks for reading

  • Hi there,

Crap to hear you’re feeling so crappy. Good to hear you’re in touch with your nurses.

I had 4 x rounds of EscBEACOPP. I would say I experienced a low grade temp (37.4) and also hot flushes and sweating. When you say a fever, what are you experiencing?

  • Thanks for the reply. It usually spikes around 38. Yesterday was the highest at 39.1 and took a couple of hours to come down after paracetamol

  • Hi  and welcome to the group.

I have been on my journey with 2 types of rare T-Cell Non Hodgkins Lymohoma for over 25 years and the advice I was given about fevers and high temperatures was rather different.

I was given these simple rules for keeping eye on infections…… If my temperature is 37.5°C, repeat in one hour. If my temperature has increased, whether I feel unwell or not, I must call it in… and was also told not to use Paracetamol to take down my temperature Shrug‍♂️

This is especially important with regress to Sepsis as sepsis doesn’t always cause a high temperature though, especially if someone is taking steroids……. below 35°C could be a sign of infection which your immune system may be unable to fight so this needs to be called in as well.

  • Thanks for the reply. I ended up coming to a&e this morning, where they found I'm neutropenic so I'm staying in for a few days for antibiotics etc. I feel like my body's reaction to this chemo is a fever, it just got a lot worse over the last couple of days so I'm pleased I didn't brush it off as a chemo symptom

  • Well done, you just can’t take any chances….. especially with regards to taking a temperature down with paracetamol as this can hide a developing infection…… let’s look for you to get out soon.
