I have not been diagnosed with anything yet. But want to ask a question.

I am an occasional drinker. But recently every once in a while if i have a drink i start feeling sick to my stomach about 1 to 2 hours after i have a drink. Its stomach pain and dry heaves. It typicaly takes 1 or 2 drinks to do it and does not kick in until later.

I have read that alcohol intolerance with lymphoma is more immediate and not stomach based. But im still worried.

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us.

I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.

I have talked with many many people over my 23 years living with my rare type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and there have been a few folks have reported alcohol intolerance…… but to the best of my memory they also all had a number of the other ‘classic’ Lymphoma symptoms as well.

The link at the bottom will take you to a section in the Lymphoma Action website where you will find good up to date information about Lymphoma symptoms.

They also have a helpline on 0808 808 5555 where Sharon or Nic will be on hand to give you some support - open every week day from 10 till 3.

There are many many none Lymphoma reasons for alcohol intolerance so I strongly recommend that you resist googling and get an appointment with a medical professional.

Always around to chat at any time.

  • Hello, I have just been diagnosed with stage 2 HL and have began my treatment. Alcohol intolerance was my main symptom that led to my diagnosis along with small lump on my neck and dry cough. The alcohol intolerance was the main symptom that made me go to the GP! It is more of a pain rather than an intolerance. My alcohol pain never made me feel sick or like you said was stomach based. It was an immediate pain that occurred without fail after even a couple of sips. It was more of an achey/burning pain in my chest and neck (which is likely to be where the cancerous mass is). I never realised what it was so drank through the pain and it would eventually go within half hour-1hour. It was very frustrating though and ruined my social life! I can’t wait to finish treatment and for that very annoying symptom to vanish!

Your intolerance doesn’t sound like the symptom I had, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

    wishing you the best.

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the community.

I do hope that your treatment is going ok. You may want to ‘Join’ the group as this will allow email notifications as to when people reply to any of your posts and indeed you see new posts from other members where you may be able to support them.

I kept a few diaries and massive folder over my 23 years with my type of rare NHL….. but we also have the ability to keep an ongoing profile, it’s rather therapeutic to keep a record as you can see how far you have come on your journey.

Info on how to access your profile is at the very bottom of my post and as always you can hit members community names to see their stories (if they have done them)

    Always around to chat.
