Hello,
My partner saw his oncologist yesterday after having his post radiotherapy PET scan and MRI. He is 3 months post RT after having 30 radiotherapy sessions for tonsil cancer (hpv) which had spread to his tongue and lymph glands. It was a gruelling 6 weeks for him and pretty stressful for me too!
The scans have shown that there is no sign of cancer which is the news we were hoping to hear. It is such a relief that after all he's been through, the pain and stress has been all worth it. He still has a way to go in terms of recovery from the side effects of treatment but is making good progress.
Unfortunately, the PET scan revealed two areas of concern on his hip and rib which were of concern to the team on his scans back in August, we were told there was something but it will be dealt with it at a later date. We didn't enquire much more as we were reeling from the tonsil cancer. Anyway, these two areas of highlighted bone have shown to have got a little bigger, although not greatly (which is positive) but the consultant believes that this is possibly metastatic prostate cancer (he had a radical prosectomy in 2013 and regular normal psa tests since) which has spread to these two areas. So, yesterday was a mixed bag of emotions with good news and not so good news. We await biopsy appointment to determine what cancer if it is cancer, it is.
The support and advice I received from this forum has been invaluable when I was going through such a stressful worrying time during my partners treatment etc. Keep up your amazing work in supporting us all.
