Hello all it's been a while, but happy to say husband is really doing great after tonsil cancer diagnosis in 2021, treatment was horrendous and recovery was a while but can honestly say he almost back to normal.

I do have one issue that I'd like to ask some advise regarding, his consultant has told him he can go back to life as normal, my issue is...he like a drink whilst it's only the weekends it quite a reasonable count and it practically all weekend every weekend, he has repeatedly asked his consultant if this is OK and they confirmed it is???? I can't understand this? Has anyone else been told the same or have been given different advise?

I'm concerned that after all his been through and how lucky he has been this is a stupid thing to be doing to his body?

Thanks

  • I have been teetotal for many years now, so this is something I didn't have to consider, however I do realize if someone likes to have a drink, it can be hard to cut down or give it up. Having a drink in moderation seems to be the way to go. Why risk a recurrence due to binge drinking?

  • TBH, this sounds like something you really need clarify with the consultant.. there may be deeper issues going on..

  • Update... just received email from consultant not very much help basically just saying sorry for my concern basically husband has the capacity to make his own decisions and if i feel like it's an issue talk to his GP, and if he brings it up at his next appointment they will discuss with himRolling eyes

  • I would have thought the very least the consultant could do would have been to advise on safe alcohol unit intake....passing the issue to your GP is not going to have the same impact.

  • That's exactly my thought not very helpful at all!

Wouldn't mind but thre GP told him he had reflux for several years so I don't hold much hope on them knowing there stuff!

  • Not very helpful at all. Not sure if there is a safe limit or not, after having oral cancer. Probably moderation is best.

At least the newer graduates are being told about oropharyngeal cancer occurring in younger patients. The ascension of HPV has changed all that

Do make sure your children are vaccinated against HPV if they are of an age.
