Hi just some general questions seven weeks after finishing RT for stage 1 tongue cancer and head neck dissection..I was wondering if anyone wakes up every am feeling tongue and cheek swollen until they move it about and do their exercises it feels a little less swollen. No two days are the same. One day I look less swollen in cheek then few hours later I could feel swollen. I feel like I'm going two steps forward and four back. Is this all normal. My neck feels the same even though I do exercises continuously throughout the day. Does this settle over time. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thank you .

  • I was prescribed Colgate Fluorigard mouthwash- the alcohol free one - green not blue.  Widely available…Boots, Tesco etc. so I don’t bother asking the pharmacy for it. I haven’t had a problem with it stinging.

  • Hi I’m new here , I was given chorsodyl mouthwash but no alcohol in it , it’s the alcohol that is causing the sting

  • Thank you I managed to order the one the hospital gave me today which didn't sting and suited me.

  • Hi, I had similar treatment between NOV 23 and Feb 24. What youĹ• experiencing is normal I'd say,. I have similar symptoms and to be fair my tongue feels swollen most days, although it is getting better. I am experiencing dry mouth, which gives me more grief than any thing else at present. The one thing I keep being reminded of by my Consultant (Mr Mann at Addenbrooks) is it's a slow process and it is major surgery. I had a bit of a wobble last week, tiredness and just a strange lethargic feeling, but I have a great support network and today is a good day, tomorrow should be better, it's a long road something I keep forgetting
