Hi all

I had a partial glossectomy 7 weeks ago for a SCC on the side of my tongue.

Just had the follow up appointment - surgeon is delighted, all the tumour was removed with >5mm clear margins and no evidence of spread.

He has therefore recommended no further treatment/neck dissection will be needed, and will place me on a schedule of scans to monitor.

Needless to say, I am very happy!

Good to hear your news. Your time line and plan was pretty much the same as me. I the SN Biopsy at the same time as surgery - have they carried out yours yet? I was not offered any scans after treatment so it must vary from trust to trust!

Mick - I wasn't able to have a SNB as it would have meant a month wait for surgery.

I must admit my plan was discussed with me on 20th January 2023 and had the surgery and SNB 5 days later. How do you feel after the surgery.

Hi Mick. Not all centres offer SNB but you can be seen elsewhere for one. Thats probably why there was the delay.
SNB has to be done with the surgery because the surgeon injects the cancer with a dye to see which lymph node/s drain it.

Thanks Dani. I just presumed that the SNB was standard procedure and could be carried out post surgery.

Hi Mick - question for you! I had partial glossectomy T1 and elective neck dessection 2 months ago. Everything is healing well but my tongue still feels like the nerve endings are growing back and it’s just a constant reminder of all this.
