Well, my husband got his treatment response Pet scan result...no cancer activity found!!.... we were so shocked none of us ( me, hubby and son) expected that, we were hopeful, but, because of the stage and grade, we were worried ( stage 3 T4 N2..... after a minute or two, I just said " so, can we use the word " cured"?.. doctors response was " cured, well yes, for now... Later after we had got home, I was sat thinking, is he cured or is it remission?.... thing is unfortunately, we didn't see the usual consultant or Professor, we saw a registrar...so, didn't asked anything else, didn't feel as comfortable with him...anyway, can anyone shed any light?
Thank you
Xx
Oh well done. So happy for you.
The scan results show complete metabolic response or no evidence of disease. He is in remission. We are never cured but the longer we stay in remission the better the chances of remaining so
We appear in NHS stats as five year survivors if all goes well, which is as good as cured as we will ever be.

Hi We’re in remission like Dani says. I got my 5 years last August for me. . Yes we were in shock when I got my pet scan results think most of us are. Just remember to keep up with follow up appointments, sometimes we slip through the system so be pro active. Best advise one day at a time and enjoy living Hugs Hazel

Thank you Hazel, appreciated...:-)))... there will be lots of appointments ahead, but, small price to pay..one question: what's the usual time to get the first follow up app with the original referring Consultant?...Christie said you will need monitoring every 3 months for a while, and have to scans...again, small price to pay
Thank you again

Hi the first year I was seen every 6 weeks although there was some leeway as I go away and as my oncologist said life’s for living so we tended to work round me. I have never had a scan but kniw Christies do scan yearly from what a friend I know whim was treated there. After 2 years it’s usuallly every 3 months then the last 2 years every 6 month's. Again trusts do vary but I was told we would know before the scope if something was amiss and not to hesitate in contacting them if in between appointments.
Just enjoy living and as time passes the appointment s will become routine, I was lucky I never stressed about them.

Worrypants , I’m about a year ahead in terms of treatment. I get check ups every 12 weeks. My first two check ups were 6 weeks but the Pet scan was similar to your hubbies and consultant put me into the 12 week cycle if that makes sense?
Thank you Brian... Did you have the same stage and grade as my hubby?
It's still seems unreal, after the nightmare of the past 6 months.
Wishing you continued good health Brian
