Hi , can anyone advise me about Durophat toothpaste. i was informed that i would need this toothpaste for the ongoing future, my dentist (Private Partnership) refuses to give me a Prescription for this, and insists on charging me for it. I understand that they are not part of the NHS but surely they should give me a Prescription that i can take to a Dispensary,as i am entitled to Free Prescriptions due to my age . many thanks
Hi Yousee
I use Durophat (in fact just ordered some more literally 20 mins ago) My dentist is NHS & gives me a prescription for 3 at a time which I get with my medical exemption card for free. Not sure how to advise re private dentist but I know its expensive. It sounds like your dentist is being difficult.
Good luck
as i am entitled to Free Prescriptions due to my age .
Not from a private dentist.
Talk to your GP. That’s where I get mine

No he isn’t. The pharmacy cannot get the funds back from the NHS so will not fill the prescription free

I get mine for my GP on repeat. It is not a toothpaste that we use out of choice but out of necessity. If your private dentist cannot provide you with it free of charge then you can explain that you will get it from your GP. She/he will perfectly understand this.
All the best.

Hi Yousee
T2N1M0 tonsil cancer.... diagnosed Feb....Finished CRT June
After multiple molar extractions at dental hospital I was advised that I would need Duraphat (for life) £15 a pop.... told I should get it on prescription from my GP, duly ordered it from my health centre...got a call from the local pharmacy querying my need for it....I emailed my Macmillan nurse telling her of my difficulty in obtaining Duraphat on prescription, oncology phoned my GP surgery and the Duraphat was quickly OK'd
Should not have been a problem in the first place...we have more than enough to deal with
Good luck
Peter
Thanks for the reply, i wasn't sure who to go to for Prescription. After my Treatment my Team said to speak to my dentist.at first he gave me the Prescription , but recently the practice moved into new premises and i had to pay from that point. thanks for that clearing up for me
Hi yousee
Ask for a fluoride varnish from your dentist while you are there. I have one every three months.

I didn't realise I could get from GP free
Some GPs won’t. But most do.
You should be using Duraphat three times by the way
Do you have a varnish as well?
