Just had my one-year review with consultant oncologist - 13 months in fact since I finished 6 weeks chemo & radiotherapy for T4 HPV+ base of tongue cancer. I got the all clear!
I'm eating normally & my mouth is not even all that dry now. Consultant said most recurrence is in first year & chance of recurrence now is under 1% - much better than I thought. I AM SO LUCKY!
I just want people who are new to this forum or going through treatment to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We are told that HPV+ cancers respond well to treatment - I'm the proof.
Sending love to everyone going through treatment, and especially those further down the road whose prognosis is less positive. Also huge thanks to Hazel/ Radioactive Raz, Dani and everyone who supported me on here - it was so helpful in my dark times.

Hi Catriona The one year milestone is a good one to reach well done. Dont forget improvements can still continue ,ok a few more side effects might pop along but they are all manageable. I got burn)ng tongue syndrome around the 3 years mark I sorted my trigger foods out mostly cheese ( I love cheese) so I accepted it and if I really really wanted cheese I took the consequences. Guess what 2-3 months ago the burning t tongue stopped just like that so I’m proof that thinges still improve. So cheese board in the menu for Christmas.

Hi Dani
I do like your new avatar. To me it symbolises hope for a new life after the disastrous big flood from the story about Noah who finally made it to dry land. I think we cancer sufferers are just like that. We finally make it to dry land after a very trying time and can then start our new life.
Sending my very best Christmas wishes to you and Stan.
