Hi All. Just a timely reminder us who have had radiotherapy will need thyroid blood tests yearly I also have cholesterol checked at same time.
. Mines today I have a yearly reminder on my phone. Do thought idea opportunity to remind all of us. Onwards and upwards, where’ve you are in treatment.

Hazel, Nobody has mentioned that to me. My last of 30 RT was in May so perhaps they will tell me later down the line. I’m with Belfast Trust & they seem to do things very differently to other parts of UK. I’ll ask at my next check up. Thankyou for alerting me.
They don’t. Somewhere between 20% to 40% of patients develop hypothyroidism.
They don’t tell you about keeping an eye on carotid arteries either. I worked the thyroid bit out, knowing my anatomy and the fact that submandibular salivary glands lying just above your thyroid, are slaughtered by RT. The damage to your blood vessels I learned from a post here from
Mmac, I’m with Belfast as well, finished in Jan. As luck has it I am actually due my 3 month check up this afternoon so I will ask ENT consultant and let you know
