It has been suggested to me that the only way I may be able to eat again is by having the above procedure.. There are no guarantees and, until the surgeon has a look  he cannot say for certain. Following a video fluroscopy it looks like a muscle spasm.  People are very split on whether I should go ahead with it.  I think after this barbaric, lengthy treatment what have I got to lose???   Has anybody got any experience or know how about this??????

  • Hi

    it’s Cricopharyngeal myotomy

Sorry I can’t help with any experience but I know what it is anatomically ( being a vet)

A quick search of some scientific papers seem to suggest it has success

You say people are split over whether you should go ahead  who? Your clinical team or friends?

I would really go with what your team suggests but ask them if there is anybody who has had the same procedure, after radiotherapy, who you can talk to. Have you got time to decide?

It would help to talk to somebody. If your team can’t help maybe send The Swallows a message. Maybe they can find someone
