Iv had tonsil cancer and have been clear for 10 months ,I’m still getting pains in neck and now all my joints ache ,headaches still dry mouth the list gos on Frowning2️ I had chemo and radiotherapy just wondering if anyone is still suffering from after effects

  • Hi The dry mouth can continue for a good while. I still use xyimelts at night and chew sugar free gum. Are you seeing your consultants on a regular basis ? There are a long list of side effects for our types of cancer wr don’t get them all. I’m lucky I’ve a touch of fibrosis sy back of nd m but it doesn’t impede my daily living.
    Hope you get sorted Hazel

  • Hi Eufene, I think we all suffer from the effects of treatment, long after it's finished. I'm over 5 years post treatment, and I still get sore throats from time to time, they were worrying at first, not so much now, I look on them as my new normal. Also my taste changes quite often, sometimes things taste very bland, sweet things still burn my tongue, the inside of my mouth can easily be nick by sharp things, like crisps or crusty bread etc. I think it's something we all learn to live with.

    Regards Ray.

  • That’s the answer I was looking for thanks ,I get worried that this still shouldn’t be happening but with your experience I know it’s the norm have agreat day

  • Same as Ray here. Sore throats when the weather changes. Saliva goes up and down in a similar fashion. The odd mouth ulcer and my tongue, cheek and throat in the treatment side still prickle, some days worse than others

  • Just keep your eye on things, if you do get really worried, about something tell your team on your next checkup, or even ring them, they will always be happy to reassure you. Have a good day yourself.
