I went to the GP on Friday as I've had this pain in my tongue for over 3 weeks now. It hurts to eat or drink anything at all; the pain is primarily located in the middle/back of my tongue. The GP described it as 'tender red tiny patches'. All of my observations were taken, and there are no signs of infection. I do suffer with silent reflux, but I've never had this pain before, and my reflux is controlled with medication. The tongue pain is absolutely agonising and paracetamol/nurofen only slightly takes the edge off, but not completely. My GP has referred me via the 2 week cancer referral system and I have an appointment on the 15th of October. I'm absolutely terrified at the thought of this being possibly cancer but I am also fed up of being in agonising pain every single day just doing the bare minimum of eating and drinking. I also get slight twinges of pain in my throat when I swallow and on the day I went to the GP my voice was hoarse but this has since gone away. Any comments welcome.
Hi it’s agonising waiting to be seen and all Sorts go through your mind. Before I was diagnosed I was given difflam mouth spray to use which really stung initially but did help numb things temporarily, post op I’ve been using Bendyzamine mouthwash which is milder and doesn’t sting to date but I am still numb in places. Ask your GP for something to help you whilst you wait for your appointment. All the best I hope you get the news you’re hoping for x
Actually it’s just a different trade name I’ve just discovered but it suits me better
I also found difflam mouthwash very helpful. Waiting for appointments is a horrible time, we've all been there and we are here to keep you company while you wait. Best wishes for the 15th, will be thinking of you. xx
Hello Nikki
The waiting is horrible, I know, all sorts goes through your mind, we've all been there. Wishing you well for the 15th. Even if it's bad news, these days there are really effective treatments and this forum will be here to help you through it.
Good luck!
