Hi all, just to introduce myself 55 yr old dad who just got the dreaded news my biopsies of my tonsillectomy have shown I have hpv- tonsil cancer right tonsil. So will have laser surgery in 2-3 weeks time and lymph nodes removed. Im being quite positive about this and willing to hit it head on. I will hopefully use your previous experiences as learning points and come through this the nest I can.

  • I'm pleased all went well, for you.

    Ray.

  • Hi Glad all went well for you. I had numb ear for about 4 weeks and then it just disappeared.  Scar looks bad but it's amazing  how quick  it heals. I'm  4 months post op now and not many people notice my scar. I did find sleeping  abit tricky for a while but you will get there. Sending best wishes.

  • Hi Wave  Im into day 4 now post Laser surgery where the tonsil was, and neck disection. I thought it was going OK and manageable but the pain level cranked up today. Im taking 2 x 500mg paracetamol and 1 x 30 mg codine and then 400 ibuprofen. Swapping between the two doses every four hours. Is there anything you can recommend to get the pain levels drop a little bit as im struggling today. This makes my tonsillectomy a few weeks ago easy Relieved

  • Oxylan was prescribed for my pain and it definitely worked.

  • Hi, if you can swallow it ask for morphine, it eliminates all your pain but can be difficult to swallow due to the sensitivity of your throat, I advise only to use it for bed as it is very strong. The next couple of weeks are the hardest but a breakthrough is remembering to chew food as it helps getting it down. You're getting better every day now just keep that thought in mind. Good luck!

  • I was on slow release morphine (MST) and Oramorph as required, contact your CNS for support on pain control

    1. Thanks all, I spoke to my cancer nurse at the hospital she asked a number of questions looked at my records and said if I go to the pharmacy in a hour I can get a weeks supply of morphine. After theRelievedirst one it was like bliss. The sharp pains decreased to a very acceptable level. She said to me if the pain ever gets to much always contact them for help. Its a lesson learnt Relieved
  • r I can get a weeks supply of morphine

Get some laxido or movicol too. Even a week of opiates can cause constipation
