Hi everyone, mind playing tricks on me after base of tongue cancer HPV16
Hi. All I can say is try not to stress it’s not uncommon for hot spots to show on pet ct scans. Am sure some others will pop on later ti explain what happened to them. 12 weeks is early to have a pet ct scan I was 18 weeks when I had mine . Some times there’s still residual radiation hanging around the scan will then light up. I must add urs bad form fir a letter to go out before anyone’s had chance to speak to you I wouldn’t have been happy either. Take comfort that HPV driven tumours treatment is very rare that it fails at the first hurdle. But it’s the waiting game please keep of google. If you’re up to it please let us know how you get on. Hugs Hazel x

Hi Brum
i had a PET/CT at 16 weeks that showed a hotspot. They are really common and 99.9% of them are due to residual inflammation from the treatment. I was given a choice of another scan three months hence or immediate biopsy.
The biopsy was clear.
There is little point trying to second guess what’s happening. Thursday is less than two days away now and I’m sure you’ll get an explanation then.
Sometimes the scanner booking office is more efficient than the consultants appointment one so you get scan dates with no explanation.
Remember though that HPV driven cancer is curable and treatment failure in the first six months is practically unheard of.
There has, to me, been a pretty rotten breakdown of communication, simply that.
Best of luck
Dani
Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Hi. A worrying time, but you should have some answers tomorrow.
As to why they want to do another PET scan that makes no sense unless the first scan was messed up. The PET/CT should give them all the information they need. as it tends to do (at least mine did) the majority of the body.
I know the frustration of the hospital not saying anything over the phone, but they may have brought you in early as all hospitals are trying to get waiting times down and if they had a slot suddenly freed up they would like to use it rather than waste it.
Let us know how it goes and remember this group is here to support you for good and bad.
Hi Brum I have been in that same situation myself and am actually waiting on the results of my scan when I see my surgeon on Friday but I know I have cancer but its a case of if its spread since my operation. I am seeing the oncologist 5 days later so who is going to give me the results. Unfortunately these things are out of our hands sometimes and stressing about them is no good , Best to busy yourself sometimes if you cannot deal with the facts. All the Best with the results Regards Minmax
Hi everyone , just got back from the hospital , primary tongue cancer has gone and the neck node has some residual radiation there should be good in 3 months. The issue that they wanted to speak to me about was a tiny grain of activity on the base of my spine that they need to rule out .
Booked in for an MRI scan
Hi Brum. Good news like we all, said it can happen residual radiation. As for the spine issue they are on the ball fingers and toes x that it’s nothing. Hope you told them how the handling upset you they need to know so a proper protocol is put in place. Many others would go to pieces. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
