Hi everyone, i was diagnosed with stage 2 tonsil cancer just before Christmas. It's also in my palate and Lymphs. I have been asked to participate in a trial to have Proton Beam instead of radiotherapy. Just wondered if anyone else been given this and could explain how they felt during and after treatment. Im also having chemoradiotherapy. The first proton and 24hr chemo starts Monday.
Many thanks for reading this.

Hi Lucy. 5 years on the only change in me is dry mouth at night I cope with it. I personally can’t eat spicy food or acidic but I’m still me .it’s nit changed me maybe for the better by being in here I help people and daft has ut sounds were all a small famiky in here who are for and about each other which is a plus point. I’m actively living my life just walked 10 km and yesterday cycled 50 km. pEdsel power not electric power. I can’t lie treatments hard but it’s worth it to continue living.
Just iff to beach as we are over in Spain plenty if factor 50 on the neck and 30 elsewhere.
Thus part is the worst the waiting and fear of the unknown

Ahh Lucy, sending a big hug Remember everyone has their own unique journey. We can tell you about ours but yours may be different. I can't have spice or anything acidic and if there's mustard hidden in anything my mouth knows
. Can't have anything fizzy either

Take each day as it comes and if you need anything please ask.
There's anti sickness meds in case you're sick with chemo... I was as soon as it finished (typical) but I shared a room with someone who wasn't and didn't even feel sick.
Do the salt water rinses to make sure your mouth stays clean. They are so important and keep thrush at bay.
Also the hospital should provide a moisturizervfirvyoyr neck - definitely make sure you use it.
Make sure you get some calories in you before treatment starts and if you like a glass or two of alcohol make sure you do that also. Now is the time to eat cake, pastry and anything you fancy Everyone drops weight during and following treatment,it's impossible not to, but it will come back on when your mouth and throat have healed Hun.
Just remember you are not alone ️
When I found my cancer I knew it was going to kill me. I was very quickly reassured that it wasn’t
There's hope for me yet then.

Mr. Prestwick,i have 6 weeks of just radiotherapy, any advice on dos and donts pre-treatment will be appreciated.
Hi best advise keep off Dr google you’ll scare yourself silly. Take each day one day at a time don’t thjnk too far in advance. Your radiotherapy team are your first point of contact you se them daily. Any issues tell them. They will arrange a nurse’s appointment there and then. Don’t forget to fry car parking permit from reception in the basement. If you need a ng tube if you’re having a peg use it they are there for a reason. It’s hard but doable.
I moved into spare room at home meant I could get up and down without disturbing hubby. I became obsessive about oral hygiene it pays off 5 years on ibe not has a filling or anything drastic. I bought a humidifier for bedroom and soft curaprox toothbrushes. Both available on zamaxon. When psin kicks in take tabkets by rote don’t chase the pain kerp on top of it. Hopefully gelclair will be prescribed for ulcers you csn ask for caphosol pre treatment but leeeds wouldn’t prescribe it 5 years ago. Yes I know of Mr Prestwich a guy from zHarrogate was under him. Who went through treatment with me.
