I’m due to have surgery next week, as the first part of my treatment, to remove the parotid tumour.
I understand to expect pain, but was wondering what pain relief I’ll be given to take home.
How long were you in hospital for….and any other advice, would be gratefully relieved.
Good evening squaredog, i have had 3 big operations to do with head and neck cancer, during my first operation i had saliva glands removed along with other suspect glands. Normally the pain is bearable and in most cases, paracetamol and codeine are the basic painkillers but if you should feel the pain is causing concern there are stronger ones that have morphine in them like Oramorth or Oxy-norm, these should do the trick. I first had Oxy-norm after a biopsy as for some reason it became painful so it had nothing to do with the operation. For most operations, you are in for about two weeks but of course, it can vary on what they do and how well you recover, hopefully you will only be in for a short period. All the best.
Chris
