Hi
I'm new here , my name is Dave
I have been diagnosed with primary unknown cancer. I have been told what my treatment is going to be 6 weeks , Mon - Fri 8 hours per day of chemo and radiation.... I really didn't expect that to be honest , i though everyday but maybe 3 hours per day.
I have been told it's going to be hard going treatment and after 2 weeks I'll be at my worst , ( not wanting to eat, really bad throat etc. I have also been told i may have to lose some teeth before treatment.
It's it as bad as what they say its going to be? I'm 63 and quite anxious . I appreciate anyone's input who's been through this.
Many thanks
Hi Dave , stick with the lovely people on this forum as they have been a life line to me. My hubby had 6 weeks of radiotherapy so i can only comment of this and he wasnt to bad just felt tired most of the time. Everyone will be different but stick with the forum for help these guys are true warriors and wishing you all the best x
Hi Dave and welcome
The radiotherapy is just ten/fifteen minutes
Chemo is delivered either once a week or two or three times across the whole six weeks
The chemo days can be long depending on whether you are getting cisplatin ( long) or carboplatin ( shorter)
The treatment is a challenge but most side effects can mitigated I was 68 when I finished treatment and I’m six years clear and living well

Hi
Thank you for that info....i thought my treatment would be similar to yours but i have been told chemo 8 hours per day Monday to Friday for 6 weeks that seems a lot of chemo to me but i did ask twice and she said yes.... Don't know wether I'm going to cope
I avoided chemo being stage 2 with no nodes involved.
I would clarify you schedule because I have never heard of anybody here having chemo daily. Do phone your CNS.

Hi Dave, welcome to the group. That does sound like a lot of chemo, like Dani has said the usual is an all-day session once a week, or about three sessions over six weeks, with RT every day. We are all here to help your along with this, so any worries or questions, just ask away.
Ray.
