Hi all,
I was wondering if someone can help.
After a failed Biopsy of the Base of Tongue, under local anaesthetic end December, I ended up having a Biopsy under General Anaesthetic on 16th January, with a successful sample taken.
On discharge I was advised a follow up in 4-weeks, but also told I would get a call.
The following day, on 17th January I got an email for a follow up for the 21st February.
On 20th January I got a notification on my "Patient Knows Best" saying my results are back from Histology.
It's not been 2 days since my results were released to the consultant, but no call. I assume if the results are abnormal, I would get a call asap.
Can I assume my results are normal, which is why noone has been in touch?

Hi. It might be that the results have to be discussed at a multidisciplinary team before you are called back
so

I’m afraid not
Thats a very quick result. Biopsies normally take at least two weeks. It might be prudent to phone your surgeon’s secretary to see what your notes mean
Fingers crossed everything is ok

Hey
Thanks for your reply.
I did think it was very quick to get the results back, but just saw it on my Patient Knows Best account.
I will reach out to the hospital tomorrow to find out from them.
I've been finding it hard to rest at night so would be good to know either way soon
Your consultant might not have had time to examine them or speak to the MDT yet.
My first biopsy results were made privately and they took over a month just to be inconclusive. Second one was 2 weeks through NHS where the malignant nature of my tumour was confirmed.
Third one was also NHS (neck dissection) they said this time it would take up to 4 weeks but it came back in less than 2.
Now the "fun" part was that I found out the pathologist who did the first biopsy was the same person who worked for NHS and dis the second and probably third ones too. A lot of them seem to make some extra earnings on the side through private insurances.
Anyway I hope this helps you that sometimes they just need time and it might not mean anything or they just need to discuss it with the team for the best way forward no matter what the results were.
Good luck and all the best!

It's not easy because we all imagine all sorts of things. If you are having trouble sleeping see if your GP can give you something to help.
Have you had any scans?

Hi all,
Just an update. I chased up the consultant and had a call back from his secretary saying that there was no need to come back in urgently but I still needed to go back in for my followup on 21st Feb to discuss next steps and treatment.
They weren't able to tell me what the test showed, but guess it's nothing serious
Fingers crossed!
Waiting is horrible, so politely ask them more questions if you want, my specialist nurse was really good at responding even she couldn't answer all the questions it made me feel better to know she was there!
Good luck!
