Hi,
I finished my radiotherapy about a month ago however I am still loosing weight. How long does this go on for?
I continued to lose weight for a while after finishing my radiotherapy. I did not have a NG tube or RIG. It took a lot of effort to try and eat enough calories and I had to work at it. It is not easy. Fortisip helped get more calories in. You have to try and eat food that is high in calories such as smoothies with full cream milk, icecream, fruit, peanut butter. You just have to stick with it. Consult your dietician as they will be able to point you in the right direction.

Hello ducklings, as has been mentioned it takes time and dedication.I finished radiotherapy in August and I am still struggling and still losing weight.I no longer use the rig .I find the feeds and ensures upset my stomach too much .I think they are too rich.I have recently started adding olive oil to most savoury dishes which is palatable and adds those calories.Especially good in soups. What I find difficult is quantity.I can only take very small meals .I am also eating lots of Christmas goodies between meals .So basically if you are finding set meals difficult grazing is the next best thing.Dunk those biscuits and cakes.Extra gravy .Anything that helps the food go down .I do find pulses are easy.A three bean salad (from a tin)with perhaps a piece of salmon is a great protein meal.Eggs also.I find meat hard to get down but cooked in a slow cooker for hours helps to soften it immensely. As I have said olive oil on practically everything helps.I hope this helps you a little.Im hoping I will put weight on soon.Good luck .
.
Thank you for this.
I am eating better than I was during treatment and the things I am managing to eat you would think I would gain the weight.
I keep weighing myself weekly just so I have a record for when I see my oncologist next week.
Its kind of reassuring that it is normal to keep loosing weight
Good evening, Ducklings. Sometimes, the stomach can shrink a bit during this period, and you feel full up quicker. Maybe a couple of bottles of food supplements will help you start putting on again. All the best.
Chris
