After a year after chemo and radiation my husband’s voice is still different, alittle raspy, deeper. Anyone else?

  • Hi Chris

My voice did sound different after treatment....gradually returned to normal....still have some raspy days....put it down to dry mouth.

  • ..put it down to dry mouth.

Yes I think that’s the crux of it. I still have odd dry nights and wake up with a sticky hoarse voice. In the early days I bought an illuminated dental mirror to check my vocal cords. Daft…. Though my oncologist was impressed

  • We pick up strange habits !!! ....I had a run in with colorectal cancer some years ago...keep a torch in the loo to check poos for blood/abnormalities....

  • Yes. I can hear a definite croakiness in my voice now. Producing it also ‘feels’ different. When I first noticed it I went and got it checked out to make sure nothing had spread anywhere it shouldn’t..  Can’t sing any more either …at least not in tune…which is a bummer.

  • Yes me. My voice is deeper than before. It took months to get used to my new raspy voice. Nobody noticed but I do. I’m a year out of treatment

  • Oh my. My singing was never good but it’s non existent now. I sing to my parrots. They don’t care Joy

  • Maybe I’ll try next door’s dog as a surrogate parrot. Expect he’ll howl and run for cover.

  • Hahaha try it

  • The little guy will probably call Puppyline….

  • Dry mouth and possibly a flare up of lymphedema.  When mine does that I can feel the inside of my throat vibrate and can see some swelling under my chin which I massage away over a day or so.
