Hi everyone,

After any help or ideas to keep my mouth from becoming dry ? I'm just ending my third week post treatment and my mouth is either full of sticky slimy mucus or extremely dry .I know the meds don't help this . And being reliant on Rig don't help as not swallowing because it's too uncomfortable. I just thought there may be something to help ,,?

Thanks Mark

  • At your stage I found a humidifier helpful, especially at night.  Maybe just try swilling out your mouth with water - sparkling works well for me. As I recovered I used an over the counter preparation called Oral7 which gave relief without hurting too much.

Once you can chew and stand the taste of it chewing gum is good at getting the saliva flowing again.  Nowadays I always have water with me as my mouth can turn dry in an instant. At night I now use Biotine gel.

  • Hi Mark. Hang in there, the treatment isn't easy but you will get there. Take one day at a time. I find for my dry mouth the same as Peter, either Biotene or Oral 7 dry mouth spray or Biotene or Oral 7 rehydrating mouth gel for dry mouth. I get mine from the local chemist. Hope one of these helps a bit.

  • Hi Spider3,I ate through the whole process and didn’t have a feeding tube,I would encourage you to eat,it really doesn’t matter what.It would help your Saliva Glands if you would eat.I only used mouth rinses a few times because they hurt so bad and I am like well I don’t think there helping if they hurt like this,So I only used Salt water and baking soda to rinse all day lots a times a day to keep my mouth clean.I am 13 Months post treatment and every month I get more and more Saliva to the point of I swallow it.I found scrambled eggs to be painless,Cook them plain no oils or butter, pepper, salt that’s what I did.

    Wish you the best
