Mucus

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question, I'm at that really thick mucus stage now ,which is horrid!!

But my mucus comes in a range of colours normal white , yellow ,green ,brown through the day it changes ,but last night there were streaks of blood in it ! Should I be worried or is this normal being that my throat is being pounded by radiation?

Anyone of my great listeners experience this side effect ? I will bring it up at next review tomorrow.

Best wishes Mark

No don’t worry. Streaks of blood and colour changes are normal. It happened to me too

  • Thanks Dani, I tried a piece of chewing gum , but I think the mint was too strong so started my coughing . Then the blood was on my tissue for a few hours

  • As Dani says if it is streaks of blood then that is normal for many of us - even into recovery.  If you start to see clots then it is time to call the help line for advice.

I certainly could no longer use chewing gum at your stage.  A nebuliser helped with my mucus, but in all honesty it was not a serious problem for me.

  • Yeh ,I use nebuliser, which is a great help , but thought chewing gum would help ,but no way ,nearly went through the roof!! Maybe use it after recovery?!

No clots ,this is bright red fresh blood at moment!

    Cheers Mark

It’s the skin and the cancer coming away. Don’t worry.

  • Hi Mark

Worrying but normally the case for most of us, our mouths and throats take a hammering during treatment
