  1. Hi, only just been diagnosed but expecting to have to have weeks of radiotherapy. From what I've been reading it's very challenging - has anyone ducked out after 3-4 weeks and if so what was the outcome for you?
  • Thanks for posting, I'm beginning to see from everyone that it's all or nothing! Short term (?) pain for long term gain...

I think I'll feel better when i know the facts and that it's survivable.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment - I'm still managing something to laugh at daily xx

  • I do 2X day.. 23/68

Do you mind if I ask why you are having your dose split into two every day? It seems bloomin awful for you

  • Hi MGWass

I very seriously thought of quitting after my 4th. week of radiotherapy as I was in so much pain. I spoke to my radiotherapy doctor who said that if I did I had just wasted my time as it would have made no difference to treating the cancer. He upped my pain meds and that really helped me through the next 2 weeks. I thought to myself that I did not want to waste those previous 4weeks. Just make sure that you are on top of the pain meds and don't be a martyr. I should have asked for more pain meds sooner but it was all so new to me that I did not think of that and thought I just had to suffer through it. I was so wrong.

  • Hi Lyn, thanks for this - it's really good advice about the pain relief. I can see now it would be stupid to go through all that for nothing. Wish I could hibernate!

  • Hey.. Take my hand o'er the pond and we can do this together! Or at least, know I'm here from afar! Hugging

  • Hi Bee! I have an amazing top Dr. and this proved more beneficial and through studies, for my particular case best bet for longevity and cure goals. I was given all options of course, but figured, let's do it!!!

  • *grumble.. b*tch.. moan...* I am not an early bird so I slink in all grumpy-like... Stuck out tongue closed eyes

I'm just being curious. I like to keep up with new methods. This is Hyperfractionated Radiotherapy. Do you know how many Gy you are getting. I got 65 in total but spread over once daily doses over 30 days

Honestly Marion, This is doable one day at a time. Make yourself a list to pin on the kitchen wall or a spreadsheet with all your mouthwashes and meds and feeds and just tick them off. One step at a time and you will do it

  • Hi Happym

Had a look at HART online......

''Conclusions: HART represents an attractive approach for patients with HNSCC where treatment intensification is indicated.''

    ....looks very promising....
