Hi everyone ,So nearly finished first week of 1x CT and 5 RT.

Not sure if I should be concerned, but I've reached the metal taste stage already is this the norm? And does it go away?

See my dietician today after treatment, should I bring it up with her or go and see the chemo practitioner?

Just another anxiety.

Feel a right wus!!

Best wishes Mark

  • It happens to many of us.  I did not get the metallic taste, instead I went down the salt taste route.  It seem these are the 2 common routes when having treatment.  We are all different so when it kicks in and when it goes will depend on your body.  It will go after treatment.

Mention it and they may have some coping strategies for you.  I just tried other foods and waters until I found something I could cope with.  In my case I was lucky and Fortisips worked well for me right through treatment so calorie and nutritian intake was good.

  • Hi Mark, Yes, a metal taste is normal, and even food tasting of cardboard (not that I have ever eaten cardboard) is normal also. Do ask the dietician she might suggest something. Don't be afraid to ask anything on here, there is no such thing as a silly question, and nobody is a wus.

  • Well done for getting through the first week of treatment. Well into the journey now Slight smile

I didn't really get the metal taste - but as people will say, everybody reacts differently - more that for the first week after chemo I had next to no taste. Didn't stop me eating although it was less enjoyable than before. Taste did come back almost normal so was able to really gorge on food until such time as the RT kicked in.

Definitely not a wus. Unless you've been through the journey with this treatment it's hard to understand just how brutal it can be.

Best wishes for the coming weeks !

It’s the cisplatin. It’s a metal. Some have found using plastic or wooden cutlery helps. It will go once you finish.
