Hi Wendy, it is a very scary and only natural to be frightened. Bear in mind most referrals turn out to be nothing to worry about, however if you do have to join us on here, be assured that head and neck cancers are very treatable with very high cure rates. Hi Wendy. This may be nothing unless you know it doesn’t feel normal and you haven’t felt it before. 
Having said that it’s the way I found my tongue cancer. 
Im over five years clear of treatment and very well. 
At least your appointment with ENT is soon. You’ll get a scope and they should more or less know straightaway

It was firm but not hard. I knew what it was straightaway.
