Hi Joanna44
Well done mum on getting through the treatment
It’s possible that this could simply be radiation fatigue. We all get it and it washes over us from nowhere. It comes and goes.
Has she lost much weight? Is she getting enough calories? She needs 2500 to recover properly
She should see her doctor really.

Oh and get her thyroid levels checked. Radiotherapy can sometimes cause hypothyroidism

Hi a reminder to all of us we need a yearly thyroid blood check as Dani say your mums could be we are prone to thyroid issues for rest of our life’s.
your mum could be suffering with radiation fatigue it hits like a wave and you can’t fight it. I too was eating 2500 calories for 15 months without gain g any weight. Make sure shes getting enough protein as well. I was told 85 gram a day. Plus 2-3 litres of water.

Hi Hazel
thankbyou for your message. My mum does tests regularly and I think she I actually obsess with them now...Het thyroid test is due soon so she is going to check it.It could be this or fatigue like you said.
She is eating regularly and more but she doesn't count calories because it is not good for the head. She gained a little more weight and hopefully she will gain more.
I forgot to ask.... my mum also have dizziness.Example, she is standing and doing something and suddenly she needs lye down because she feels dizzy .Is it this because radiotherapy.
She also goes to the toilet often and she had list time urine infecrion .Is it possible that infection. might come back ?

It could be. There can be an impact on blood pressure as well. She needs to ask her team

Not due to RT
UTIs can recur and frequently do
Also I presume she is post menopausal? It could be hormonal. I take oestrogen to stop bladder irritation

Hi Joanna
For a while after radiotherapy I used to get dizzy with postural hypertension. I had to be careful when I stood up or put my head down as it would make me dizzy. I also found that if I was a bit dehydrated it would make it worse. The dizziness has now gone but I still have to make sure I drink enough water or I get dizzy and think I am going to faint. Consequently I always carry water with me. I would get the UTI checked out as your mum may need antibiotics to get rid of it. Not drinking enough fluid can also be a cause of a UTI as we get older. Radiation fatigue can take a while to get over. You just have to rest when your body tells you to and do what you are able. It is rather frustrating but it does improve over time.
