Interesting article on cancer treatment waiting times- https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwy948p4j5wo

Head and neck - only just over 50% of patients start treatment within the intended 62 days

  • Treated for both Bowel/Head and Neck.... luckily within the target times.... others not so fortunate.... tragic.

  • I was well outside the recommended times.

  • That’s pretty good. I’m in Wales where Labour has been in charge of the NHS for thirty years. I was treated in 2019. I suspect it’s much worse now

  • Each time I will have been outside of the treatment times, but that was through my choice rather than hospital delays.  However, that still gets recorded as a failure of the system to meet the target!

  • I was lucky in Australia. As I have private health cover I was seen immediately after being diagnosed with jaw cancer and my radiotherapy occurred promptly after the healing period after my op. Those who do not have private health cover and are on the public system called Medicare have to wait longer although still within a reasonable time frame.  My daughter  who does not have private health cover is currently on the waiting list for an op deemed 'urgent' although not cancer but could potentially be. She is still waiting for an operation date 6 months later.  Very frustrating.
