Finished my treatments last week and currently have a NG tube in situ. I just can't seem to bring myself to swallow anything. I want to get off this feed ASAP. Does anyone have any tips? Still spitting thick saliva and blood. I'm dying for a cheese pizza .
Hi it’s really early a week after treatment., well done for getting through it.
Keep the calories up practise swallowing exercises. I still do swallow and jaw exercise daily I’m over 6 years treatment.
I had ng tube mine was taken out week 3 recovery some are much later we are all different. I had to show the nurses and dietician and nurses I was capable of orally drinking a bottle of ensure. The cheese pizza will happen but maybe not straight away think nursery food to start with poached eggs jelly and custard try foods. Calories are importantly I was told 2500 every day and 2-3 litres of water. Blog below might help

Hi Clayton75, well done finishing your treatment, time now to recover. Give yourself time to recover, your body has had one hell of a bashing, and it needs to heal itself, which can only happen over time. Don't try to rush it, recovery is a marathon not a sprint. You will get there.
Ray.
a week... TBH, this is a really tough time for a lot of people, so don't be surprised if you feel like you're taking a few steps back.. things do get better, but it's not something you can rush.. keep drinking if you can, and you'll slowly find yourself eating more exciting things.. well done.

Hi
I finished chemoradio just over a year ago....PEG tube fed for 4/5 months....Sept/Oct 2023 before I was eating solid food, started with small portions supplemented with Ensure 2cal...gradually increased portion sizes and experimented with different food types....can now enjoy pizzas with an AF beer...chippy food...mild curries...taste and appetite about 90%....recovery takes time...treatment was very harsh.

Hi Clayton
Finished chemoradio early June ....soreness started easing off in September ...I had to go for a hernia op in mid September, the intubation process damaged my throat, set me back another month or so... settled down after that.... still have little niggles, most of us do....the chemoradio was a tough gig for our moutha and throats.
