Hi sorry for complaining again but having a bad day with water blisters. I must have one at very back of throat and pain is excruciating. I took some ibuprofen and difflam which has now kicked in but omg sooo painful. I seem to get these every day. Does anyone know when these blisters ease . I'm 9 weeks post RT. They're not too bad when at front of mouth but at the back is very sore. I have had them now for some weeks. Thank you.

  • Hi jg123,

I'm so sorry to hear how you are having such a rubbish day.  I have had no experience of water blisters, but I just wanted to say, don't apologise it is not surprising to say how you aren't feeling good.  None of the good people on here will blame you for that.  They are all lovely on here and I am sure that there will be someone on here who knows exactly what you are going through and will be able to give you some sound advice.

    Thinking of you.

    Hugs

  • Thank you Hazel,  my oncologist never had a patient with them either and he said it's probably down to saliva. Just seems to be no let up on them. Especially as you are about to eat they pop up which makes eating painful. Just tired of all this mouth pain , feel like I'm taking two steps forward and four back. I know I'm early days yet . A friend who was in RT dept also said it's like water blisters you get from bad sunburn as the RT burnt the inside of your mouth and it's similar. Has anyone heard that before. Thank you x

  • Hi I had tiny water blisters on roof of mouth. Sometimes it’s what did you’re trying g to introduce anything too acidic up they pop.Radiotherapy Treatments brutal but it needs to be it’s killing cancer and surrounding tissue is in the way. It doesn’t last forever. Although I can occasionally get ulcers on gums or cheeks different food triggers mine. Usually fermented or acidic I know my trigger points. I’ve a sensitive mouth more so than many. But I know my triggers now often it’s trial and error

    • Thank you Hazel, I wonder if mine is the same. I like a smoothie in the am as it gets all my fruit and protein into me . Maybe it's that. Would hate to cut that out . The pain has subsided now but it drains you when they appear. Hoping they disappear as quickly as they appeared. Thank you , Jackie xx
  • Hi Jackie

It could be the fruit if there’s soy acidic in it. To be honest I couldn’t tolerate smoothies for a good 6 month. Fruit too a long time. Bananas were my staple fruit   Orange etc took years. I still can’t eat an spole or pear with skin on. But we are all different. I could eat chocolate from around 6 month many can’t. Swings and roundabouts. Maybe try a day without smoothie then it’s trial and error to find your trigger. I was ok with vegetable smoothies with added nut butters.

He’s spot on. They are caused by blocked salivary ducts from the tiny salivary glands dotted about the mouth. While they can be painful they really aren’t harmful at all. These tiny glands survive RT and can go into overdrive when you eat. They can be a problem for a long time.

  • Hi Hazel, I was thinking that too. Gonna give my smoothies a miss tomorrow to see if it makes a difference. Just trial and error as you say to find the trigger. Thank you for your advice appreciate it. Xx Jackie

  • Oh really, thank you Dani. I took some painkillers and difflam . It's annoying as they appear just as you are about to eat and are like a knife sticking into your tongue or throat. Jackie x
