I've just finished a 6 week course of radiotherapy and 6 sessions of cetuximab. All i want to do is quench my thirst.

  • I am curious did you loose all of your saliva in your mouth from treatment

Hi, no is the answer. I don't think anybody loses it all. My cancer was at the back of my tongue on the right side. The tongue is considered a midline organ so my RT was both sides, with a reduced amount on one side. Both my submandibular and one parotid salivary glands were fried...permanently. The multitude of minor salivary glands in the mouth and throat seem to recover quite well.

My mucous wasn't so heavy I couldn't spit it out, noisily, I'm afraid. I could spit into kitchen roll in my sleep.

Lots of centres suggest carbonated drinks. It's mentioned often here too.

You haven't been with us very long. I see you are about a year out of treatment. Have a look around at the other posts here. There are many people who have done exceedingly well even after a really bumpy start
