I’ve just been having a look back at some threads and Dani and Hazel’s blogs. I’m interested in the Auricular acupuncture to stimulate saliva. How many sessions would you recommend. And when I’m ringing around looking for someone do I need to ask or look for anything specific other auricular acupuncture?
Thanks in advance
Hi
I've just had my third session, I’ve noticed my saliva (not a great deal) isn’t as sticky. I’ve paid for 3 more sessions in February. Not sure if I will have anymore after next month depends on improvement and advice from Sue the therapist.
i made sure Sue was registered as an acupuncturist I also looked for reviews relating to her.
I'm impressed by her professionalism and knowledge. I do find the sessions relaxing even though you have needles stuck in your feet, legs and hands.
well worth a try to regain some normal saliva.

I would recommend six but be guided by your practitioner. I emailed all the clinics I could find to ask if they would do Auricular for xerostomia. Let us know how you get on.

Hi like Dani I would say 6 I noticed a difference after the first one. Just remember it doesn’t work for everyone go in with an open mind. An acupuncturist with experience of auricular acupuncture is needed.
Good luck

This is an interesting one. It's a technique that can be taught without having to go to Acupuncture School as it involves no diagnosis or interpretation. My practitioner said she would be happy to teach it to any of my SALT team. Food for thought.

I was lucky to get acupuncture for free at the Dimbleby cancer care charity. I had 6 sessions. Hard to be sure whether it helped or not but my dry mouth is mostly not bad now

bridgetb It depends. Not everybody benefits. How far is your husband in his recovery? What has he tried to help his saliva ?
