Scan confusion

Hi,

My husband had his response treatment pet scan last week..he was told before going into scan, that he will be having a CT scan, however, when his pet scan was done, the radiologist said you won't be having a CT scan as your Consultant doesn't want one now....as this happened to anyone else?  Or any ideas why?

Thank you xx

  • There’s no need for a CT if you’re having a PET as that includes a CT and it’s a whole body one.

  • PS. There’s no point in having just a PET as all that does is show up areas of high glucose use ( hotspots, if you like)

It has to be superimposed on a CT to make sense. The CT can of course be viewed on its own anyway.

  • Thank you for taking the time to respond Beesuit, and I understand what you say, however,  I'm still confused as to why both Pet scan and CT was booked, then confirmed at the appointment, only to be cancelled at the very same app....

  • What does the appointment say?
PETs are usually described as a PET/CT

  • PET /CT treatment response scans. It is the fact the radiologist said, your Consultant no longer requires the CT scan that has me confused.

  • Well just ask. As I said a PET on its own is not much use.

  • We will ask at his app next Friday, thinking about it though, my husband is being looked after by 2  Professors at Christie Manchester...so, being logical about things, they know what they are doing..

    So, now we wait

Thank you for responding Danni, much appreciated
