Hi, seeing that I had a splenectomy when I was 5yrs old, my main questions will revolve around the lowered immune system issue.. So, looking back, what are some of the questions that you should've asked when you met your team? PEG, after effects, etc.. thanks.
Hi first thing when you’ve got list of questions type or write out in duplicate one for you for oncologist it helps both of you. That way you so t miss anythjng.
You should get a dental refferal as our teeth need checking.
Ask if hospital Policy is peg rig ir ng tube if needed.
will you be hsvjng chrmo then explain re spleen.
Are you HPV positive?
How many radiotherapy sessions
A phone number of cns or Macmillian nurse
Will yiu see a dietician regularly.
Am sure others will pop on
good luck Hazel

I’ll add to Hazel’s fairly comprehensive list
Regarding your list, they might say that all this is done at consent
When your oncologist goes through the consent form they will go through the treatment you are signing. This will include what the treatment will be and all the side effects ( nobody ever gets all of them ). It’s a legal requirement. I had plenty of time to raise questions at every tick
Make sure you understand what every one means.
To Address your particular concern just make sure your oncologist has the fact of your splenectomy at the front of their mind. I would be surprised if they didn’t though. It’s the chemotherapy that might pose a problem. The figures my oncologist quoted is that chemo adds just over 6% to your chance of cure. I would take time to discuss the consequences of not having any/ some/ all and the process in place should you run into trouble.
Best of luck.
Let us know how you get on
