Am having PICC line fitted in a few days time and asking users for advice
Was wondering if there are any the pros and cons, if given the choice of which arm?
Hi Yorkieman
Ive never had one but I do have friends that did…. ( Too many…)
Best in your non dominant arm
Best wishes

Hi Yorkieman, I had a PICC line for about 5 months. I didn't have a choice of arm as they picked the best vein for use. Turns out it was on my dominant side. It didn't interfere with my ability to do anything. I was given a shower sleeve on insertion day which was great. All the best, Tina
Had a PICC line inserted myself this week.
They choose the side which is not affected by Cancer. I am right hand dominant but because the Breast cancer I have is in the right side.. I had to have the PICC line on the left..
The main thing to remember is once the line is in.. take care of it : by which I mean be careful when you are attached to anything (check the line is not under tension and when having treatment ensure your arm is straight and not pushing on the line)
Ensure it is always covered so that it cannot be pulled out. (You can buy PICC covers online which help)
It isn't painful to have inserted.. it can be sore for a few days afterwards.
I had my first Chemo yesterday and with the PICC line it was easy peasy..
Good luck and best wishes
keep well
