Hi guys and gals, I had some blood tests done last week, they rang with results today, all are fine apart from one to do with my Thyroid, the GP is going to ring me on Friday to discuss possible medication for such. I have seen Thyroid being mentioned on here before, although I can't find anything on it now. Can anyone enlighten me on this.
Hey I already had a slight underactive thyroid before this happened to me. I have been taking 50mg levothyroxine tablets for years. You'll need to take it every day forever and you can get it Iiquid form if needed. You also need to get yourself medical exemption certificate as its free.
Hi Ray. Your thyroid sits over your larynx at the Adam’s Apple. It produces thyroid hormone. It’s the gland that governs your metabolic rate. Too much hormone and you are in hyper metabolism. You lose weight and are hyper active. Too little and you’re sluggish, feel the cold can have a slowish heart rate and gain weight.
Radiotherapy targeted at the neck often damages the thyroid to such an extent that it fails to produce enough thyroid hormone so you have to have a drug called thyroxine to replace it.
It can be a long term effect showing up years after treatment.
They say up to 40% of us will have problems
I hope that helps
