Hi. I’m 8 months post Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy for a tumour on my epiglottis with 3 lymph involvement. Just this week I have developed a really stiff jaw on the left side. It’s painful and I can only get 2 fingers in my open mouth where it was 4 fingers before. I’ve got an appointment booked with my specialist next week but wondered if this had happened to anyone else after 8 months of no problems? Thanks.
Hi
I developed Trismus and could only just a baby toothbrush in my mouth. I was given sticks to use but found them too painful to try and get in . My cancer nurse got me a Therabite Jaw Rehabilitation Device, it was brilliant, still painful at times but it worked. I can now open my jaw as normal. It took a few weeks, and I used it several times a day, but it’s worth asking if he/she can get you one .
Hi Debbie, can I ask what gap between your teeth you need to be able to use a Therabite? My husband had rapid onset of trismus and he can just get one finger between his teeth. Do you think he would be able to use a Therabite with such a narrow gap? Thank you
Hi SnowWhite
It is adjustable , I was probably about the same, eating was really difficult, cleaning teeth had to turn baby brush on its side to get it in. I would say he could, and it can be adjusted has the gap widens. It took me a few weeks you have to persevere but it’s worth it sorry picture is upside down , the bit with the holes in it is the part you squeeze to open your jaw
