Ear pain

Hi all,

I am four months post-chemoradiotherapy and generally doing well. Waiting for my first PET scan, very soon.

In the last couple of days, I have had some ear pain. This was one of my symptoms pre-diagnosis. I have not had it since the start of treatment.

This is making me anxious, in case it indicates some remaining cancer.

Has anyone else experienced this, after treatment?

Thanks

Steve

  • Yes I have Steve , not as frequent now mind ( I’m 16 months post treatment) . Mine were a sort of stabbing pain just under the ears . I’ve had two scans as I’m one of the no known primary and nothing was amiss. I’m guessing radiotherapy damage might cause it ?

  • RT damage? I have lost high frequency hearing on treatment side ( no chemo) but it didn’t happen straight away

  • Hi Steve

im pretty much the same timeframe as you and have my consultation on Wednesday following PET to determine if I’m ok. My ear has just clogged again over the last week after being gone for a couple of months. It was blocked for some time mid radiotherapy and then for 7 weeks post treatment. I’m having mild ear pain and like you it’s making me a little nervous but being optimistic I’m hoping it’s part of the healing process. I’ll let you know what the consultant says on Wednesday.

  • Glue ear is very common after chemoradiation. It could be fluid. Just a thought.

  • Hi, I’m 4 months post chemoradiotherapy & the side that was targeted my hearing is greatly reduced & I have pain sometimes. ENT says it’s fluid due to radiation & will hopefully clear itself. I’m also getting sharp pains when I raise right arm but waiting to see oncologist to see if that’s also a result of treatment. Waiting for the PET scan & results is awful, you just want to know but I was told scan cannot be done until you’re healed as it may show up false positives. I know it’s not easy but try to keep your mind busy so that you aren’t dwelling on it. Best of luck. Maureen

  • Hi. Yes, I have. On right side as that’s where the higher dose of RT was directed. Also tinnitus & over the past couple of months my hearing has got worse. . All due to radiation according to my ENT consultant. .
