I have recently finished 7 weeks radiotherapy and 6 lots of chemo following a diagnosis of right tonsil cancer spread to lymph node, I had to have an NG tube fitted 10 days ago due to not being able to swallow any food orally. I have started to get earache on the left side now and I am really worried that this is an indication of something sinister as earache was one of my initial symptoms that led me to pursue what was wrong with the right.
i am also struggling so much with the NG tube, I have vomited a couple of times with feeding, have been having coughing fits and generally just not getting on very well with it at all.
any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Les.
maybe bolus feeding is putting too much into your stomach at once. I fed slowly by pump overnight and that was much easier.
Re the earache. Contact your CNS and ask for an appointment to reassure you it’s nothing.
Fingers crossed.

Hi Les Try not to be worried it is early days and your mind is going ten to the dozen thinking the worse , I had similar issues which they put down to temporary swelling and the pain stopped , Just remember this time will pass whatever your going through. They could not fit my NG tube as it kept coming out my mouth and took a third nurse to eventually get it fitted lol . You will get through this just play some rocky music . All the Best Minmax
Good evening Les, i agree with Dani you have to be careful when feeding via a tube as these food supplements are very rich, and if you take too much in one go either by syringe or pump you will find it bloats you and gives you the feeling of nausea. I did get a slight earache but i put that down to the side effects of my operation along with chemo and radiotherapy, in gradually disappeared but if you are worried then please see your consultant for a check up. Wishing you all the best.
Chris
