Hello everyone I was recently diagnosed with Non Hodgkin lymphoma which caused a tumour at base of my neck just behind my ear

I am in middle of second chemotherapy cycle and have several more cycles to go before starting radiotherapy. Is there anyone out there who has the same type of cancer and is undergoing treatment? I would love to hear from you especially about any side effects

The PET scan showed abnormal thyroid cysts so I’m worried about that too however the haematologist said let’s concentrate on the brain cancer first

looking forwsrd to getting some replies. This is the first time I have  written  Rutherford

  • Hi Rutherford. There is a Non Hodgkin Lymphoma Group in the Community. You'll find just the answers you seek there. Just click on the link I've made in red.

The Lymphoma Action Group is a good place to look, particularly if you don't understand something the medics tell you

    Good luck

    Ah...  This bit didn't register.

Most of us here get radiotherapy aimed at our throats where it does a significant amount of damage including mucositis (ulceration of the mouth and throat) and damages our salivary glands, leading to some degree of permanent salivary loss. Targeting behind the ear should avoid most of that, except perhaps the one Parotid underneath the ear. I should think, your skin might burn. Mine did but I largely avoided severe burns, I like to think by using masses of Aloe Vera gel immediately after each session....who knows?

The radiotherapy will make you tired so just listen to your body and rest whilst still getting a little exercise. How many sessions are planned?

Please do qualify this with your oncologist though who is best placed to tell you about side effects
