Hello again,
I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer (p16 positive) in November, and I have completed two days of radiotherapy and one of chemotherapy. Things are happening. I'll list most worrying first:
In chemotherapy my blood pressure shot up to dangerously high levels, it lowered later. I'll put this down to stress. I have bp medication and I have to monitor myself.
Weight gain. Yes, Im not eating bad things, but I have gained 8 pounds in 11 days. This worries me as am pre-diabetic. 3 pounds of this is muscle gain after excersice, no really.
Constipation: day two of no movement. Drinking more water, and eating more fruit and veg.
Very dry tongue in the morning. Gargling with bicarbonate of soda helps.
any thoughts
Onwards.
Steve
Hi Steve. What did the chemo team say about BP? I'm sure your diagnosis is spot on and next time you'll be more relaxed so we can probably put this one to bed? But do remind them at your next chemo.
Weight gain? Just eat sensibly while you can. I was told there is no need to bulk up if you are a good weight when you start. It's just important if you are slight.
Constipation is the bugbear of all of us in treatment. It can get get serious so ask for laxatives when you go to your RT today. The usual ones are Movicol or Laxiado. I took two Laxido every day during treatment and was OK but there are some horror stories here in the Community city so be prepared.
As for your mouth ...I made sure my oral hygiene was spot on. Bioxtra mouthwash is good and pretty soon you'll be getting all sorts of stuff to help moisturise and protect your mouth. Gelclair is good and I had Caphosol and Difflam.
If you've been given these things already, use them.
Maybe a list in the kitchen or a spreadsheet to remind yourself when to take all these things.
I wasn't in any real discomfort till the end of week two when my throat started to get really scratchy
Best foot forward.

Hello, Thanks for this information. One more thing is hicupps. A few five minute sessions away.
Hi Steve please get movicol or is if I prescribed or you will end up with impacted poo whuch isn’t pleasant. B o can vary with chemo I went the other way low b p I take 1 5 mg amolodopine hopefully yoyrs will sort its self out.
dry tongue try adding teaspoon of salt as well as bu carb or try baking powder. To 1 litre of water and put in a bottle. Plus bioxtra is gentle mouthwash again script . If too strong dilute with water. Kerp off moutgwashes with any alcohol in even the zero alcohol ones are strong. Oral hygiene took a huge chunk of my day.
your weight will sort its stuf out. Good luck my throat went scratch 7 sessions in on treatment.
