HI All

I had my first chemo treatment all day in hospital yesterday and have been sent home with a Fluorouracil 5 day infusor which is attached to the PICC line.  Its been on for nearly 24 hours now.  I have a concern that the fluid does not seem to be reducing in the bottle.  There are no air bubbles its just still a solid mass of liquid.  Should I get this checked out do you think?

  • Just in case anyone else has the same query at some point, I think this picture explains the process and the balloon actually shrinks whilst the infusion takes place.

  • Hi Clare. I think it’s such a small thing you might not notice in the first day but perhaps you should phone your team. If you are on 5FU you should have an emergency contact number?
