  • Hi. Sorry you need RT. It’s rubbish but doable. Things to get in place? Get your lifts organised. After a couple of weeks you’ll start getting a bit sore. By 4 weeks you’ll probably be at the plateau of pain and feel pretty sorry  for yourself.
I would ask about pump feeding if you can’t swallow. I had overnight pump feeding which gave me my food slowly and left me free in the day to try things I could eat without worrying I was getting enough calories.
Get eyeholes cut in the mask.
You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes being able to see round you.
    Best of luck

  • Hi Great Idea about the mask. I had them cut the eye holes in and it made a massive difference as I was feeling a bit claustrophobic.I am getting a NG tube in soon . Then I can have my meds and food if things get to challenging.

  • Good move getting the NG .You won't regret that

  • hi

I had 6 weeks RT for nasal cancer.  And i hated my mask but lorazepam and diazepam were prescribed to help keep me calm which really did help. I know there is some concern about addiction to these but as soon as i did not need to wear the mask i stopped taking them.

I know this may sounds weird but i would sit in the chair in the front room and just get really cold so i had a throw over electric blanket that allowed me to sleep/doze in the chair and kept me warm.

Take the medication to manage the pain

I had trouble with a really dry throat and a humidifier oh a chair by my bed by my head when I went to sleep really helped.

6 weeks sounds like a life time when you start but i just counted down the days.
